“Chris and I have spoken a number of times about this fight and we know the opportunity that it gives us. That’s why we were so desperate to get it organized. We’re aiming for more than just Fight of the Night. We think our styles and the way we fight match up really, really well and that this fight could potentially project us into a sort of legendary status. I want to be remembered in this sport, and this fight is my chance to make sure that happens.”
UFC welterweight Marcus Davis (15-4) hypes his upcoming fight against Chris Lytle (26-16-5) at UFC 93: “Henderson vs. Franklin,” which will take place at The O2 Arena in Dublin, Ireland on January 17. Davis is calling in several radio interviews for Lytle to keep this fight standing, adding that whoever takes the match to the ground will be branded a pussy. Believe it or not neither the “Irish Hand Grenade” nor “Lights Out” have ever been stopped by strikes in their respective mixed martial arts careers. That could all change in early 2009 … at least for one fighter.

Get ready for an Irish banger at The O2 in Dublin on Saturday, January 17, 2008.
As expected, welterweight sluggers Marcus Davis 15–4 and Chris Lytle 26-16–5 will indeed throw leather at UFC 93: “Dublin,” setting up a 170-pound match up that already has “Fight of the Night” written all over it.
One would imagine that “Knockout of the Night” would be more appropriate, but believe it or not neither the “Irish Hand Grenade” nor “Lights Out” have ever been stopped by strikes in their respective mixed martial arts careers.
That could all change in early 2009 … at least for one fighter.
Davis — who openly questioned whether or not Lytle was deserving of the opportunity to fight him at this time — is coming off a slick second round submission win over Paul Kelly at UFC 89: “Bisping vs. Leben” just last month.
It marked the twelfth with in 13 fights for the former contestant on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 2. The Bangor, Maine, native has notched several of the wins during that span overseas in Europe, making quite a name for himself among the many fans located there.
Lytle is also fresh of a win at UFC 89, decisioning Paul Taylor in an action-packed back-and-forth brawl that actually earned “Fight of the Night” honors. With the victory, Lytle has now won just four of his last eight.
However, the losses during that stretch were to Josh Koscheck, Thiago Alves, Matt Hughes and Matt Serra — some pretty good competition.
He’ll get another big test against Davis because inside the Octagon no good deed ever goes unpunished. Already, Davis is calling in several radio interviews for Lytle to keep this fight standing, adding that whoever takes the match to the ground will be branded a pussy.
Game on.
Rich “Ace” Franklin (24-3) and Dan “Hollywood” Henderson (23-7) — two of the world’s most elite 205-pound fighters — will headline UFC 93. Also featured is the return of Mauricio “Shogun” Rua as he takes on UFC pioneer Mark “The Hammer” Coleman.

According to the Junkie, The Irish hand grenade Marcus Davis will take on heavy handed Chris Lytle at UFC 93 on January 17th from the O2 Arena in Dublin, Ireland.
“Chris Lytle and I want to fight each other … He’s expressed that he wants to fight me. I’ve expressed that I want to fight him.
“We like each other, we respect each other, but we want to have that fight. And my pitch to Chris is, ‘The first guy that starts grappling is a pussy, so let’s not do that. Let’s just stand up and just beat the hell out of each other. If we get in a clinching scenario, and somebody wants to throw somebody or whatever, go ahead and do it. But let’s not try to finish it on the ground. Let’s stand up, and let’s bang it out.’”

Quoteworthy:
“I don’t mind Chris calling me out, it’s part of the game. I certainly didn’t take offense. He had warned me beforehand that he was going to do it, so I don’t consider it disrespectful or anything. I like Chris and think he is a great guy but I don’t know whether he deserves a fight against me. People always say that Chris is the ‘gatekeeper’ to our division, but I think that I am past the gate at the moment. I have spoken to a few people who have told me that they actually think Paul Taylor won that fight against Chris. I beat Paul in one round (in September 2007), so I’m just not sure. But, of course, if that is the fight that the UFC want, then I am more than happy.”
Marcus Davis is eager to return to the Octagon at UFC 93: “Dublin” at The O2 in Dublin, Ireland, on Saturday, January 17, 2008. However, “The Irish Hand Grenade” is unclear if Chris Lytle — who decisioned Paul Taylor at UFC 89: “Bisping vs. Leben” last weekend and called Davis out afterward — is deserving of the opportunity to fight him at this time. Davis also won at UFC 89 with a slick second round submission over Paul Kelly. I was his twelfth with in 13 fights. Lytle, on the other hand, has won just four of his last eight. However, the losses during that stretch were to Josh Koscheck, Thiago Alves, Matt Hughes and Matt Serra — some pretty good competition. If Lytle and Davis were to collide it would certainly be one hell of a fight, which is more than likely the reason “Lights Out” is asking for it. He loves earning that bonus money win or lose.

UFC 89: “Bisping vs. Leben” from The National Indoor Arena (NIA) in Birmingham, England, on October 18 has come to a close.
The highly anticipated main event of the evening between Michael Bisping and Chris Leben had its fair share action, but it was not awarded the “Fight of the Night” by promotion officials when all was said and done.
That honor went to welterweights Chris Lytle and Paul Taylor for their rock-em, sock-em three-round brawl, which “Lights Out” took in the end via unanimous decision.
Another 170-pound match up that didn’t make the televised Spike TV broadcast between Dan Hardy and Akihiro Gono had to come in a close second.
Overall, it was a solid card that produced several exciting fights — the fighters honored below more than deserved a little extra cold hard cash for their outstanding performances.
Here are the special fight bonuses for UFC 89:
Knockout of the Night — Luis Cane
Submission of the Night – Per Eklund
Fight of the Night — Chris Lytle vs. Paul Taylor
Each fighter received $40,000 for their efforts in addition to their respective base salaries, which will more than likely not be made available because the event took place overseas.
