Brady withdraws from the November 7 main event against Bonfim
A staph infection in his knee left him unable to walk, and the hospital drained the knee more than once. Brady is targeting January 16 in Dallas.
Sean Brady withdraws from the November 7 main event against Gabriel Bonfim.
The bout was set for the Meta Apex in Las Vegas. Brady and Bonfim were booked for five rounds at welterweight, and welterweight is 170 pounds (77 kg). Laerte Viana reported the withdrawal, MMA Fighting confirmed it, and the UFC cancelled the bout.
Brady is 33 and 19-2, and Brady is 9-2 in the UFC. Brady beat Joaquin Buckley by unanimous decision at 5:00 of the third round at UFC 328 on May 9, and November 7 would have been Brady’s second fight of 2026. Michael Morales stopped Brady with punches at 3:27 of the first round at UFC 322 on November 15, 2025.
A staph infection in Brady’s knee left him unable to walk. Brady hurt that knee before the Morales loss, and Brady said a small cut started it. The knee swelled on Tuesday after he rode a bike in the gym. Brady went to the hospital at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, and the hospital put him on IV antibiotics. Brady had dealt with bursitis in an arm and a leg, and Brady said this pain was different. The culture took two days. Brady stayed in the hospital for three days, and the hospital drained the knee more than once. The knee filled again after each draining, and Brady had hoped the draining would let him fight.
Bonfim is 29 and 20-1, and Bonfim is 7-1 in the UFC. Bonfim beat Belal Muhammad by unanimous decision at 5:00 of the fifth round on June 6, and Bonfim stopped Randy Brown with a knee at 1:40 of the second round on November 8, 2025. Bonfim has won five in a row since the loss to Nicolas Dalby.
Brady fought a ten-week camp, and Brady asked the UFC for a spot on December 12. The December 12 card was full, and every other card still on the 2026 schedule was full. Brady is targeting January 16 in Dallas, and Brady hopes the UFC rebooks Bonfim. He said that on Thursday on The BradyBags Show.
The UFC called Johnny Walker to headline against Waldo Cortes Acosta, which the card story books. The co-main stays Tatiana Suarez against Virna Jandiroba at women’s strawweight.
